My Life

I was born in an agricultural family at Kuttiady near Kozhikode district, Kerala. I did my school at nearby places of my home. I had never thought about an engineering degree as my parents had no idea about my education! Since I have some interest in mathematics and wanted to be a school teacher I joined as an undergraduate student in mathematics at St Joseph College Devagiri, Kozhikode. My teachers at Devagiri helped a lot in academic and non-academic matters and they advised me to join at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) for higher studies. Then I joined for MSc Statistics at CUSAT and while studying there I came to know about the research and I decided to join for Ph.D. program there. After my Ph.D., I spent one year at Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi as a post-doctoral research fellow. Then I joined as an Assistant Professor in Statistics at the University of Hyderabad. In December 2011 I moved to Indian Statistical Institute, Chennai.

My father, Kunhikrishna Kurup passed away, mother Padmavathi Amma is staying with my elder brother who was a teacher in my village where I studied up to 4th class. I married Dr. Remya R. Nath (MD) and presently she is doing Ph.D. at the University of Hyderabad. My daughter Veda S Kattumannil is studying at Pupil Saveetha Eco School Chennai.

I reached this position because of my teachers who always encourage me in all situations.
